Job Description

Brick built and rendered semi-detached property from the 1950s.

Location: Leeds

Work undertaken between April 2021 and completed in January 2023.

The client contacted Retrofit Projects in 2020 and requested a whole house insulation and retrofit survey as well as a damp assessment. The client wanted to extend and completely refurbish the property and was concerned about heat loss and future rising energy bills. The homeowner also wanted to make significant improvements to the home at the same time as resolving internal damp problems.

A detailed survey and assessment was carried out at the property, highlighting areas of significant ground floor dampness and parts of the home that would require further remedial repairs.

The survey and report provided by Retrofit Projects allowed the client to fully appreciate the extent of the work required and the expected costs and duration of the project.

Solutions

Stage 1 - Architectural services and planning

The starting point was the architectural work and the renovation was undertaken over the course of 2 years

The main project was to completely redesign the internal layout of the home and to add a significant single storey extension to the rear elevation.

The entire ground floor was completely stripped out and all the old defective plaster was removed, allowing high levels of internal wall insulation to be added.

Stage 2 - Ground floor building works

As well as complying with the latest building regulations, the entire property was insulated.

Working with the client and with a team of contractors, we were able to complete the project within a realistic timescale. One of the main issues to contend with on this project, was defective work, and poor workmanship from previous contractors.
