Stage 1: Fixing Rockwool insulation slabs to the external walls
The work was undertaken in September 2023: the old hanging tiles were removed and the solid walls exposed.
Two new A-rated PVCu windows were installed to ensure that the new insulation would fit perfectly with the external window reveals (the windows needed replacing in any case).
The external walls were solid block and had no cavity. External wall insulation was the only solution and the best option being 100 mm Rockwool – which was fully bonded and mechanically fixed.
Stage 2
The insulation was covered with a thin coat backing render, and mesh membrane embedded in the first coat – with extra membrane inserted in key locations to avoid possible stress cracking.
Two coats of backing render were applied, the finish gave a flat even surface.
The final part of the system is a coloured silicone render system, done in stages over several days.
Working with the clients and with a team of expert contractors, we were able to complete the project within the expected timescales.
All work undertaken is covered by a full guarantee on both labour and materials.
