Job Description

New customer in Horsforth, Leeds, work undertaken in 2025.

Insulation and renovation work and specialist retrofit solutions.

The clients contacted Retrofit Projects in Autumn 2024, and requested a whole house retrofit survey, including thermal imaging. They were very keen to know what improvements they could make and were concerned about rising energy bills. They also wanted to make some improvements to the exterior of their home, including re-pointing the front and rear walls, and to potentially add a solar PV system and battery.

A detailed survey was carried out and the retrofit assessment covered all aspects of the property. The 150-year-old house was solid stone construction, and was not insulated.

The scope for adding insulation was limited.

The survey and report provided by Retrofit Projects allowed the client to fully appreciate the extent of the work required, and the expected costs and duration of the project.

Solutions

Stage 1

Retrofit Projects provided a full retrofit survey, including a thermal imaging report, and a re-pointing specification for the front and rear elevation.

Stage 2

The property was suitable for a small solar PV system on the rear roof elevation, with a battery storage system fitted externally.

Stage 3

The front and rear walls were repointed to take advantage of the scaffolding.

Other remedial work was carried out while scaffolding was provided to ensure the roof was sound and any repairs were easily dealt with.

Stage 4

The client wanted to replace the existing older glazing with new A-rated frames.

A-RATED, Flush casement PVCu windows were recommended.

Stage 5

Although adding internal wall insulation was not an option in this home, the loft space and insulation was upgraded and fully boarded with a new loft ladder.

The work was completed in spring 2025.
