Job Description

New customer in Bromley, Leeds, work undertaken in 2024 and 2025.

Insulation and renovation work and specialist retrofit solutions

The client contacted Retrofit Projects in 2024, and requested a whole house retrofit survey, including thermal imaging.

The client was very keen to know what improvements they could make to improve internal comfort, and they were concerned about rising energy bills as the house was draughty and not retaining heat. They also wanted to make some improvements to the exterior of their home, including re-pointing the front, side and rear walls.

A detailed survey was carried out and the retrofit assessment covered all aspects of the property. The 60-year-old house was insulated with cavity wall construction, however there were some issues with dampness at the base of the walls.

The survey and report provided by Retrofit Projects allowed the client to fully appreciate the extent of the remedial work required, and the expected costs of upgrading the insulation and duration of the project.

Solutions

Stage 1

Retrofit Projects provided a full retrofit survey, including a thermal imaging report, and a specification for re-pointing the front, side, and rear elevation.

Stage 2

To solve the damp issue, the base of the cavity walls were cleaned and rubble removed from the cavity, in addition a gravel soak-away was formed to the perimeter of the property, this solved the damp problem.

Stage 3

The front and rear walls were repointed by a specialist contractor.

Further remedial work was carried out while scaffolding was provided to ensure the roof was sound and any repairs were easily dealt with.

Stage 4

The client wanted to replace the existing older glazing with new A-rated frames.

Further recommendations, and work planned for spring 2025.

Stage 5

Under-floor insulation to the ground floors.

Stage 6

Insulation to be fitted to the sloping ceilings to the first-floor bedrooms.

Stage 7

The client is planning a new single storey extension to the rear elevation.
